About Us

In June 2006, the owners and management of Odyssea Divers who were then operating out of another resort in Wori Bay, Kima Bajo Village Manado, decided that our guests could be better served if we operated out of our own resort. The concept of Cocotinos, a boutique beach resort, was mooted and design work began immediately. At the same time, land on the beach front in the fishing village of Kima Bajo was acquired and the villagers on the beach were resettled within the village in new brick houses built by us. Many of the villagers were living in wooden and bamboo houses on the beach which were subject to severe weather annually.
A total of 12 families were relocated and a beach front of 132-meters became available for construction which started on the 17th of March 2007. After a brief and intense construction period of 6 months, Cocotinos was opened to welcome guests on the 10th of Oct 2007 with 10 rooms completed and operational. The finishing work continued and the resort was finally completed in March of 2008.
All 18 rooms are now operational and another 4 duplex villa rooms will soon opened in April 2010 on our new piece of beach front land adjacent to the original; all these 4 rooms are on the water’s edge and offers spectacular views of Wori Bay. With the addition of this new piece of land, the total beach front of Cocotinos extends to 178 meters.
Design and construction
Cocotinos was designed by the owner himself in consultation with the management team of Odyssea Divers. The inspiration for Cocotinos comes from the simple way of life and vernacular style of construction that can be seen in a typical Indonesian village. The aim was to create a facility that is stylish and highly functional, catering to the needs of the present day traveler, with particular attention to divers. The restaurant, lobby, swimming pool and dive centre are located within close proximity to encourage social interaction between guests of all nationalities who share common interests. Guests will find power points conveniently located at the writing desk and bedside table to facilitate the charging of telephones, computers, cameras and other electronic equipment. Power points located on every column in the restaurant make photo viewing and sharing after diving so much more fun. Wi-Fi is available at the restaurant for the present- day traveler who cannot do without internet connection.
The bathrooms are designed to be bright and airy. Every bathroom has a skylight and glass blocks to allow natural lighting, as well as ventilation windows with mosquito netting to keep out the bugs. Guests will enjoy the spacious shower area with its pergola and planter box at the side which gives the feeling of showering in the outdoors. Privacy doors for the water closet and shower areas make the bathroom more practical for double sharing, especially during the early morning rush before a dive.
The bedrooms are designed with high ceiling and a special louvered window with mosquito netting that allows for cross ventilation while providing security to the guests. Guests can choose to sleep in air-conditioning or natural ventilation.
In general, the resort is built using local material that is available in the vicinity of the resort. Fossilized coral, washed out of hillsides is used on columns and accent walls; washed pebble is the floor finish in the bathrooms and public areas; and “Buluh Tui” a type of bamboo used by local fisherman is featured on bathroom doors and balcony partitions. Volcanic stone is hand-hewed and used for the construction of the boundary wall.
A good part of the construction work in Cocotinos was carried out by the villagers of Kima Bajo. An interesting fact is that the swimming pool was dug out, not using excavators, but by the women of the village. The women did the digging whenever they could find a break between washing, cooking and looking after the children. As such, guests may find some of the finishing a little rough but perhaps some imperfections could be tolerated in exchange for good social relations and economic benefit to the people of the village.
Our Purpose
At Cocotinos we aim at being your favorite host for your vacation. Cocotinos Manado is our first property and while we are primarily a dive resort in Manado many non divers who had stayed with us have had a good time in our resort, enjoying our Spa, restaurant and bar, chilling out and using our resort as a base to explore the highlands, national park and the local culture.

The Cocotinos Name
The name Cocotinos was chosen for two reasons. Firstly, North Sulawesi has coconut trees in abundance. Secondly, "Tinos" is the nick name of one of North Sulawesi’s best known dive guides, namely Martinus Wawanda. By naming the resort after him we give recognition to the local dive heroes who have made North Sulawesi a world class diving destination.
